Device Friendly Names
GigaFox comes with a built-in list of device friendly names to easily identify devices with unrecognizable names, i.e., Samsung's SM-N950U. Instead, the Samsung SM-N950U is displayed as Galaxy Note 8.
Manage Device Friendly List
Users can manage the device friendly names list by making
additions or changes to the friendlynames.user.ini
file.
In the case that a device's friendly name has already been defined
through the built-in GigaFox list, the entries in friendlynames.user.ini
will supersede the built-in name and replace it with the user's entry.
If the friendlynames.user.ini file has already been created, skip
to step 3 to make additions or changes.
Otherwise, to create and add devices to the list:
- Navigate to /usr/local/deviceconnect/data.
- Create the file friendlynames.user.ini.
- In friendlynames.user.ini, follow the specific
operating system conventions to make the changes:
-
[device manufacturer name]
- iOS: <productType>=<device friendly name>
- Android: <Model>=<device friendly name>
- Restart services.
